A recycled-polyester underwear claim should identify the relevant component, the substantiated recycled proportion and the records that connect the material to the order. A recycled option in a catalogue is not confirmation that every sample or shipment uses it. Keep the material claim separate from claims about recyclability, biodegradability or overall environmental benefit.
Identify what the proposed percentage describes
Write down whether a percentage refers to the body fabric, the polyester component within that fabric or the whole garment by mass. These are different statements. Underwear can include a separate lining, elastic, thread and labels, so a body-fabric claim should not silently become a whole-product claim.
M005, M004 and M007 are catalogue examples with polyester-spandex bodies and modal lining. Their public material descriptions do not establish exact component percentages or recycled content for a chosen order. Request the final bill of materials and evidence for the specific material being proposed.

Connect certification evidence to the material supply
Textile Exchange describes the RCS and GRS as standards for third-party certification of recycled materials and chain of custody. Review the relevant entity, site, activities, material scope and supporting supply records. A certificate copied from a different business or material cannot establish the claim for your garment.
Ask what transaction or traceability documentation is required under the applicable programme and which records will accompany the order. Textile Exchange also publishes a standards transition programme, so confirm the version and timeline relevant to the supply rather than relying on an old logo or summary.
Approve claim wording before printing packaging
For the US market, the FTC's Green Guides summary cautions against broad, unqualified claims such as green or eco-friendly and explains that partly recycled products or packaging need qualified recycled-content claims. Use specific, supported language and review the requirements in every destination market where the claim will appear.
Certification does not automatically substantiate every environmental statement a brand might make. Confirm the rules for the exact wording and any proposed logo. A recycled-content record does not itself prove that the finished underwear can be recycled through a customer's local collection system.
Keep material approval and product performance connected
If an approved body fabric is replaced with a recycled-content option, review the resulting material, fit, colour and care requirements on the actual sample. Do not assume equivalent appearance or performance solely because both materials are described as polyester-spandex.
Retain the approved claim text with the material reference and order documents. On reorders, check whether the material source or specification changed and whether the supporting records still cover the new supply. Update product copy and labels when the substantiated claim changes.

Is M005 automatically certified recycled underwear? No such blanket claim is made here. Confirm the selected material and relevant documentation for the actual order.
Does recycled polyester mean biodegradable? No. Recycled origin and biodegradability are different properties and need different evidence.
Can I use an RCS or GRS logo because a supplier mentions the standard? Only after confirming that the product and claim meet the applicable requirements. A catalogue mention is insufficient.
